Call for Papers

Following the success of the previous three conferences (2018; 2020; 2022), we are pleased to announce the Call for Papers for THE INC 2024 titled ‘Technology Enabled Competitiveness and Experiences in Tourism, Hospitality and Events’.

THE INC welcomes theoretical, empirical, experimental, and case study research contributions. These contributions should clearly highlight their theoretical and/or practical implications. Whilst the focus of the conference is on technology use from both the supply and demand side, topics may be used as relevant contexts include but are not limited to the following:

  • Competitiveness, sustainability and corporate social responsibility
  • Consumer behaviour, decision-making, expectations, experience and satisfaction
  • Smart cities / destinations / tourism / infrastructure
  • Culture, heritage, place -making and storytelling
  • AR/VR/XR, Metaverse
  • Human resources, equality, diversity, and labour operations
  • Robotics, AI, Internet of Things, Big Data Analytics
  • Emerging and innovative research methods and methodologies
  • Sharing/gig economy, collaborative consumption, value co-creation
  • Innovation, creativity and change management
  • IT, ICT, e-tourism, social media, gamification and mobile technologies
  • Marketing, advertising, branding and reputation management
  • Policy, planning, and governance
  • Health, well-being, quality of life and wellness
  • Training and tourism, hospitality and events education
  • Other interdisciplinary areas related with tourism, hospitality, and event

Abstract Submission

Abstract’s word count should be between 500 to 700 words (excluding references). The abstract should include the purpose of the research, the methods used and the key /expected findings. For author guidelines please click HERE.

The abstract should be submitted via the online conference platform. Please note that for the conference, you only need to submit an abstract. All submitted abstracts will be double blind peer reviewed by independent, expert referees. For submitting your abstract please click HERE.

Several publication opportunities for the research presented at THE INC are provided. Apart from the Conference Proceedings (ISBN 9789090381466), which will include the presented abstracts in the conference, the full paper version of high research quality papers could be published in the following journals (the journals’ review process follows):

Special issues:

  • Event Management: The Event Management journal will publish one special issue entitled “Technology Enabled Competitiveness and Experiences in Events”. The full paper of the research presented at THEINC 2024 conference should be submitted directly to the journal’s online platform by 16th March 2024 at the latest.
  • International Journal of Tourism Research: The International Journal of Tourism Research will publish one special issue entitled “Technology Enabled Competitiveness and Experiences in Tourism”. The full paper of the research presented at THEINC 2024 conference should be submitted directly to the journal’s online platform by 16th March 2024 at the latest.
  • Strategic Change: The Strategic Change journal will publish one special issue entitled “Technology Enabled Competitiveness and Experiences in Hospitality”. The full paper of the research presented at THEINC 2024 conference should be submitted directly to the journal’s online platform by 28th April 2024 at the latest.

Supporting journals

Note: The special issues connected with THE INC 2018 in Event Management and Hospitality and Society journals have included an overall number of 24 articles (16 in EM and 8 in H&S). The special issues connected with THE INC 2020 in Event Management and Tourism Planning & Development journals have included an overall number of 16 articles (9 in EM and 7 in TP&D). The special issues connected with THE INC 2022 in Event Management and Tourism Planning and Development journals have included an overall number of 18 articles (10 in EM and 8 in TPD). Those research outputs consistently highlight THE INC as the conference with the most significant research output in the field of tourism, hospitality and events.
