University of Derby / CBI

Located in the heart of England, the University of Derby builds on the region’s heritage of innovation to provide industry-relevant, expert teaching and research. Rated Gold in the Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework (TEF), its academic strength is backed up by practical experience to ensure students are ready for a successful career. We want everyone to receive the high-quality education they deserve, regardless of age, background or location. We were named University of the Year at the UK Social Mobility Awards 2020 and Higher Education Institution of the Year at the 2020 NEON (National Education Opportunities Network) Awards. And we have won the Guardian University Award 2020 for Social and Community Impact.

The Centre for Contemporary Hospitality and Tourism is the home of the University’s courses and expertise in events, tourism and hospitality management. These three disciplines overlap to make up the wider ‘visitor economy’: the services and experiences that attract visitors to a destination.

The Centre for Business Improvement is a founding member of ATHENA. It is within the College of Business, Law and Social Sciences, and supports organisations in their goal to improve and maintain strong business performance through applied multi-disciplinary research. Its work has been widely published and the exchange of knowledge between the Centre and regional, national and international organisations has led to real improvements and impact within the business community.
